How the environment affects you

The dictionary description of FOOD is – Material, usually of plant or animal origin that contains or consists of essential body nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals, and is ingested and assimilated by an organism to produce energy, stimulate growth, and maintain life.

The number of chemicals in our food today amounts to many thousands. This means that many of the things we call food today do not actually fit the original description of food.

The human body was not designed to ingest these chemicals and responds to them as the toxins that they are. Over a period of time of ingesting chemicals in foods, they can become embedded in the body, and the body can become sick. (if a person were given a small amount of poison each day, it may take a long time, but eventually that person would become ill).

As well as chemicals in our food, there are also many toxins in our environment; Hairsprays, skin products, some plastics, dry cleaning fluids, heavy metals from traffic fumes, lead paints or mercury in fillings. The body can often come under so much strain from these chemicals that the effect of this exposure manifests itself in many different illnesses.

Medicines often have side effects because they suppress the body’s warning systems. The body is then forced to create more symptoms, as this process continues it can also make it harder for the body to fulfil its natural function of healing itself.
